Gunite Pools

Gunite pools, or shotcrete pools, are constructed by spraying a mixture of sand, cement, and water onto a steel framework or excavated hole. These high-end concrete pools are long-lasting and incredibly durable, and they also offer a high level of design flexibility.

Our Pool Design & Installation Process

  • 1

    Consultation and Site Assessment

During a client’s free consultation, we nail down their inground pool vision and provide them with an upfront estimate and timeline. We’ll also thoroughly explain the construction process so that they have clear expectations for our deliverables, starting on day one.

  • 2

    Design Your Dream Pool

Our next step is to provide renderings of the customers’ wants and needs. We’ll present our initial design plans, then revise them according to the client’s input. Our crew will also explain any pros and cons that come along with the final design before confirming it.

  • 3

    Obtain the Necessary Permits

In Florida, approval for an inground pool permit can easily take up to 6 weeks. However, we do our best to expedite the mandatory process and are often able to push permit approvals to an average of 3 weeks time, depending on the complexity of the project.

  • 4

    Excavate and Begin Construction

Before we begin the excavation, we’ll partially set up the pool layout and mark it to ensure accuracy. Depending on the land elevation, we may also add well points to keep the ground dry. The excavated dirt will then be hauled off-site unless it’s needed for leveling or grading.

  • 5

    Plumbing and Electrical Work

Next, we’ll dig trenches to install plumbing lines and pool light conduits. These trenches will lead to the customer-approved site, where an electrician will install a pool equipment panel. This panel will power the pool’s lights, pump, automation features, and any other electrical equipment.

  • 6

    Structure Reinforcement

After the space has been dug, we will install steel rebar as a caged outline of the pool. This rebar will reinforce the concrete pool shell that will be shot through a high-pressure nozzle. Before the concrete is sprayed, we will also schedule a required steel inspection.

  • 7

    Pool Shaping and Tiling

Although the overall shape of the inground pool is formed by the steel cage, we will refine it by hand troweling. This forms the final shell of the pool. After the shell is cured, we will meticulously install level tile and coping around the pool’s perimeter to create a waterline.

  • 8

    Decking and Landscaping

Decking is one of the final steps and varies depending on the size and product. Our clients can choose from a range of materials, including shellstone, marble, travertine, or concrete pavers. Once the deck is installed, landscaping the perimeter of the deck will truly transform your backyard into a Great Escape.

  • 9

    Final Touches

The final (but crucial) part of the construction is the installation of the pool's interior. After that, our team will conduct final touches around the pool equipment to make sure it is operable and will function as it should.

Frequently Asked Questions

The installation of an inground pool generally starts at $45K, with the average price falling between $80K and $100K. However, to provide you with an accurate estimate, the Great Escapes Custom Pools team will need to fully understand the scope of your desired project. Schedule your free consultation today.

We often recommend that homeowners install their pool over the winter months so that they’ll have it ready for use by the following summer. Early summer to early fall is generally the least favorable time to install inground pools, as Florida’s rainy season can trigger construction delays.

Pool installation timelines vary in length depending on the type and size of the pool, the overall complexity of the project, and unique design specifications. In most cases, the process takes between 6-8 weeks, although we push for under six weeks whenever possible.

For a more specific time estimate, reach out to Great Escapes Custom Pools. We’ll assess your project requirements and provide you with an accurate timeline. Our goal is always to under-promise and over-deliver, so you can expect us to finish on time (or earlier).
